Scholarships and Financial Aid for International Students

At the University of Oregon you’ll find several sources of financial aid for international students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Each year the UO awards more than $2.5 million in financial aid and scholarships to international students. Below is a list of financial aid and scholarship opportunities for international students. Incoming freshmen (both domestic and international) who apply by January 15 are automatically considered for the .

For scholarships and work-study, students must apply for admission by January 15. Admission application materials, including test scores, must be received by February 15.

Application-Based

International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) Tuition Scholarships

The is a partial tuition scholarship. Scholarships apply to tuition only and are based on financial need, academic merit, and the ability to make presentations to diverse groups of people. The ICSP scholarship has a cultural service component that requires students to give presentations about their home country to children, community organizations, and UO students, faculty, and staff. ICSP scholarships are renewable up to the completion of one degree.

ICSP Nascensce Scholarship

This supplemental scholarship is awarded to a student from China or Hong Kong who is also a recipient of the International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) scholarship. No additional application is required.

Work-Study

International Student Work-Study Program: $1,000 USD to $4,500 USD per year

The grants more than 50 work-study awards, ranging from $1,000–$4,500 each year, to eligible international students with financial need. Students who receive these awards can compete for on-campus work-study jobs during the academic year. Students are not guaranteed on-campus jobs, but opportunities for on-campus employment will increase.

The UO Division of Global Engagement grants several competitive cash-based scholarships each year to international students who demonstrate financial need and academic merit. Students may be eligible for additional scholarships in the range of $1,000–$12,000. Please consult with your admissions counselor for more information about applying.

Other Sources of Financial Aid

  • Pan American Fellowship: The was established by the Oregon Federation of Women’s Clubs (OFWC) in 1946 to assist women graduates of accredited colleges in Latin America pursue graduate work at an Oregon college or university, and to assist women graduates of accredited colleges in Oregon pursue graduate work in Latin America. The fellowship award pays the recipient $325 per month for ten months (September through June).
  • Leo S. Rowe Pan American Fund: The is an Educational Loan Program of the Organization of the American States. It grants interest-free loans to people from Latin American and Caribbean countries to help them finance their higher education at accredited universities in the U.S. There is a maximum of $7,500 per academic period.
  • The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund: The is an outreach program of the World Bank Family Network. The fund provides financial assistance to women from developing countries during their studies in the U.S. or Canada. The MMMF annually awards six to ten grants of approximately $12,000 each.
